I really liked this. The bit about safety feeling unfamiliar is such a big one, because sometimes your brain is basically stood there going “hmm… this is suspiciously calm, where is the disaster?” 😂

And the difference between discomfort and actual danger is huge too. Not every wobble means run, but equally not everything has to be tolerated either. That middle bit, pausing long enough to work out which one it is, is bloody hard.

Really thoughtful piece

Awesome, thank you so much for taking the time to read my words! It sounds like you noticed something really interesting about the idea that not every wobble means we need to run, cower, avoid the issue, or avoid change in our lives. While writing this, I realized I did that a lot, reacting out of fear instead of clarity, and it made my depression and anxiety go all over the place.

I’m still working on it, but I’m doing it a little more peacefully now.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes fear gets there first and starts shouting before we’ve even had a chance to work out what’s actually happening. I’m glad it feels a little more peaceful now though. That sounds like progress to me.
